Cross or not to Cross
We are shit at many things, and have a midfield consisting of 3 players that hardly can pass a ball. But why don't Snodgrass, Fornals, Anderson, Yarmolenko, Masuaku, Cresswell, Fredericks, Zabaleta ever deliver a cross with precision?

It's well known in all leagues in all countries, and works when you have two strikers.

Re: Cross or not to Cross
Agreed

And who remembers the last time we crossed the ball first time without having to take a touch?

We just don't practice these things. Our training is purely passing it around until a through ball is on. With our slow midfield and dozy backline they appear in training and we probably look great.

It evidently doesn't happen against fit and switched on opposition.

Re: Cross or not to Cross
A few times yesterday when we got into good positions to cross the ball into the box we went back and started passing short through the middle.

It's been a pattern for a long time. All mentioned chooses other options than a cross even if the settings were due to a cross.

Big team mantra bollocks is now a curse on our weak and slow players

In training they probably look like world beaters, our attackers against our defenders, it just when they have to play a real game against any other premier team you can see how crap they really are.

Remember Kevin Keen anyone?

Hugged the touch line like a limpet, made ground and crossed the ball.
Didn’t always look up but the forwards knew he get a cross in.

loved keen. not the most talented player, but very fit and always worked hard. like geoff pike, he was undervalued by many (especially me) but worth his weight in good to a team

I'm pretty sure it is two or more players in the championship that would be an upgrade on Cresswell and Fredericks

As apparently we are yet to score a headed goal, perhaps balls on the floor might be better.

Hello, you sound like pellegrini. What do you think the reason is why we don't score a headed goal?

I remember Keen and we actually suffered and made fewer chances the season after he left.

I think they have been told not to cross.....
Or maybe they are on their wrong foot so make playing a cross really hard.. go on try to cross a ball with your wrong foot and tell me why you hit the corner flag.

Also where is stan the man when you need him

Re: Cross or not to Cross
Jasnik said it: if you're going to play Snodgrass or Yarmalenko on the right, and Anderson on the left, they are all so one-footed that there is no hope of getting a snap cross in from the wings. Cresswell is able to cross on the few occasions he manages to get in position to do so, but being a left back he is usually too far back to cross dangerously.

Re: Cross or not to Cross
My main recollection of Kevin Keen was him repeatedly running cross field with the ball, playing a two yard backwards pass and running back to his position on the wing because he didn't want to lose the ball and generally wasn't good enough to take players on.
